EFX-02 Introduction to Slapback Delay

About this lesson

Delay is an essential effect for guitarists and a great way to understand how to use delay is to use a slapback delay. The slapback delay only repeats a signal once which is very useful for interesting rhythmic or harmonic effects. The exercises in this lesson plan will teach your student how to think about the delay's timing and to use it properly. Instead of randomly setting the delay, your student will learn to control the timing and mix and use it in creative ways.

EFX-01 Introduction to the Wah Pedal

About this lesson

The wah pedal (or wah-wah as it used to be called) is an extremely versatile effect that can allow your student to really add expression to their playing. As a guitar teacher it's simple to teach students how to use the wah and they can instantly hear how it changes their tone. The exercises in this lesson plan will teach your student the essential skills needed to properly control the wah pedal. Instead of randomly rocking it back and forth, your students will understand how to properly control it.

In addition to the standard rocking technique, the exercises demonstrate how to use the wah as a filter as well as how to use it to add emphasis to certain notes. After running through these exercises, your student will feel confident in using the wah pedal.
