BLU-05 12 Bar Blues Shuffle Variation

About this lesson plan

This lesson will give the student a different way to play a standard 12 bar blues shuffle. The style of this progression is very similar to something Stevie Ray Vaughan would do. Your student will learn:

  • How to add muted hits to create a percussive sound
  • Different ways to use a walking bass line
  • How to develop their rhythm skills

Giving the student this lesson after completing BLU-03 will give the best results.

About this lesson plan

This lesson will show your student how they can use Open G tuning to create a great blues sound. The examples given are simple blues ideas so the student can quickly grasp the concept and come up with their own blues licks and progressions using Open G tuning. The Teacher's Guide will explain the important concepts and what the student needs to do to really bring out the blues feel with the tuning.

About this lesson

This lesson plan will give your student three different scales they can use to improvise over a blues progression. Each scale has an in-depth explanations from the SCA series so this lesson plan focuses on how to apply the scales in different keys. Your student will learn the unique characteristics of each scale and when to apply them. This lesson should be used in combination with BLU-03 as it will show them exactly what to improvise over. If your student wants to learn the blues, this lesson plan will help them achieve a big part of playing blues.
